Ming-Chi Kuo, a respected Taiwanese analyst, has suggested that this move is a key part of Apple’s strategy to reduce risk by diversifying its production locations. As a result, Apple plans to decrease its reliance on Foxconn’s Chinese facilities in Zhengzhou by as much as 45% and in Taiyuan by up to 85% by 2024.

Recent data shows that India contributes 12-14% of Apple’s worldwide iPhone shipments, with Foxconn playing a prominent role in Indian production. The reshuffling of production capacity is projected to reduce China’s global iPhone production share from 93.5% in 2022 to 91.2% in 2023. Simultaneously, India’s share is expected to increase to 10% of global shipments, up from 5-7% in the previous year, fulfilling 85% of the local demand, according to Counterpoint Research.
